3 vol. in-4, granite calf, ribbed spines decorated with coat of arms, triple gilt fillet on covers with gilt coat of arms in spandrels and in the center, double gilt fillet on edges, inner lace.
First edition of this detailed history of Spain, which begins with the invasion of the Moors in 711 and ends with the death of Ferdinand V in 1516. It is illustrated with a large fold-out map of Spain and a folded genealogical chart.
A very fine copy from the library of Louis-Robert-Hippolyte de Bréhant, comte de Plélo (1699 - 1734), with his arms stamped in the center of each of the 2 plates (O.H.R. -1715, iron no. 3), in the 4 corners of each plate and in the boxes of each of the 3 spines (O.H.R. -1715, iron no. 4).
He was successively second lieutenant of the Flanders gendarmes, colonel of the dragoon regiment bearing his name, French minister plenipotentiary to Denmark and then came to the aid of Stanislas Leczinski when he was imprisoned by the Russians in Danzig.
