In-8 marbled calf, smooth ornate spine, title page in green marble (contemporary binding). Expanded second edition; the first appeared in 1769 under the title "Idée générale de l'Astronomie". Complete with 26 engraved plates. A fine copy. Naturalist and professor of experimental physics at Le Havre, Abbé Dicquemare (1733-1789) was the inventor of the Cosmoplane (a kind of flattened globe mounted on two moving concentric disks, to solve nautical astronomical problems).
