FERRAND (David).
Rouen, Chez l'auteur, 1655. In-8, 16-484 pp. Contemporary ivory vellum. First and last pages worn. Rousseurs, average condition. Second edition (the first under this title). "[...] the printing of this book is very irregular and should be considered more as a collection of pieces that have appeared successively, than as a continuous printing. La Muse normande, a popular book if ever there was one, is nonetheless an invaluable compendium for anyone wishing to learn about the customs and spirit of the people of Rouen, and the main events that took place in Rouen in the first half of the 17th century, a time when France was troubled by internal strife. With regard to the language, whose coarseness is always affected, it is no less curious in the midst of the Norman patois, called langue purinique, one encounters Latin words and many forged words." Frère. Ex-libris J.M. Copy from the P. Le Verdier library (according to a handwritten note in pencil), with a 4 pp. in-12 bibliographical note dated 1890 (Frère I, 462). Enclosed: La Muse Normande. Cologne [Caen], Pierre Marteau [sn], sd [c. 1760]. In-12, 25 pp. Modern marbled bradel boards. "This opuscule should not be confused with David Ferrand's Muse Normande. It is a collection of anacreontiq odes and bouquets printed in Caen, circa 1700. One of these pieces is addressed to Abbé Ygou, sub-prior of the Abbey of Troarn and member of the Acad. de Caen." Frère. Ex-libris J.M. (Frère II, 334.)
