50 copies of the original edition. Title vignette featuring the insignia of the Carabots, with their motto in the form of a rebus: "L'exécution de la loi ou la..." (The execution of the law or the...), surmounted by a bloody skull and crossbones. The badge is reproduced on p. 8, publisher's mark in fine.
The Carabots were a group of sans-culottes formed in Caen during the French Revolution. The society was dissolved by decree of the National Convention on August 8, 1793. A historian from Normandy, G. Mancel (1811-1862) was curator of the Caen library. Ex-libris JM on upper flyleaf.
