Rare first edition published anonymously (unlike the second edition published the following year); illustrated with six rather naive out-of-text engravings, probably after the author.
The author, Alexandre Jacques Louis Chevalier du Coudray (1740-1789), a former king's musketeer, was governor of the town and château of Les Andelys.
