DESLIONS (Jean). Paris, Villery, 1694.
In-8 brown calf, spine ribbed and decorated (period binding). Small gouge in lower margin of first pages. Double-page engraved plan.
"This book, written during the trial between the archbishop of Paris and the archbishop of Rouen and before the Parliament's ruling of June 13, 1693, which maintained the latter's full jurisdiction over the town of Pontoise and the French Vexin, was favorable to the claims of the archbishop of Paris; it contains a speech by Deslyons to François Rouxel de Médavy, archbishop of Rouen, delivered on Sept. 24, 1673. This prelate had gone to Pontoise to reconcile the newly polluted church of St-Maclou (says Niceron), and M. Deslions gave him this speech to ask him to end the disputes that his claims to the vicariate of Pontoise had caused. [Deslyons (Jean), priest, dean of the Paris faculty of theology, dean of the church of Senlis, preacher to the king, etc., was born in Pontoise in 1615, and died on March 26, 1700, in Senlis, where he was buried in the cathedral. In the words of the Senlis chapter itself, Deslions was one of the most remarkable men of his century, for his profound knowledge of the Holy Scriptures and the doctrine of the Fathers." (Frère I, 348.) Ex-libris JM.
