SKELTON (Joseph) & VATOUT (Jean). Le Château d'Eu illustré depuis son origine jusqu'au voyage de Sa Majesté Victoria, Reine d'Angleterre. Paris, Goupil et Vibert and Firmin-Didot frères, 1844.
Large folio (61.5 x 45 cm), blue half-chagrin, ornate ribbed spine, gilt title on front cover (period binding).
Originally published in 7 issues, this handsome work is illustrated by J. SKELTON with 21 plates engraved on applied China paper. It includes a title vignette, an engraved second title (the Comte de Paris firing his first cannon shot at Le Tréport), an engraved dedication and 19 plates: view of the château, 8 portraits including the one of Guizot, which is not listed in the table, 5 plates depicting significant events in the history of Eu and 5 plates devoted to the royal visit of 1843. Text by Jean Vatout (1791-1848), private librarian to King Louis Philippe.
Traces of dampstaining on the first cover, marginal foxing and dampstaining hardly affecting the lithographs, otherwise a fine copy. Ex-libris JM on upper flyleaf.
