A native of Arques, Marie-Henri Ducrotay de Blainville (1777-1850) was a French anatomist and zoologist, a disciple of Georges Cuvier. He contributed to the classification of living beings, introducing the term "biology" in a modern sense. He also left his name to the "Blainville curve", used in acoustics.
