12 vols. large in-8, purplish morocco, ribbed spines richly decorated with gilt and cold motifs with gilt arms in the center of each of the last of the spine boxes, wide gilt and cold border framing the boards with large cold medallion in their center, gilt roulette on the edges, wide gilt inner border, gilt tr. (period binding).
First collective edition, partly original. It is illustrated with a portrait of Bernardin de Saint-Pierre by Girodet and 27 hors-texte plates (including 1 folding map and several botanical plates) engraved by Dupont, Sixdeniers, Toschi, Roger, Danbrum, Delignon, de Longueil after Desenne, Lafitte, Moreau le Jeune, Prudhon, Vernet and Isabey.
A precious copy bearing the coat of arms of Pierre de Montesquiou-Fezensac, Comte de l'Empire (1764 - 1834), French soldier and politician, Grand Chamberlain to Napoleon I and President of the Corps Législatif. Some scattered brown spots.
