Amsterdam, Wetstein & Smith, 1732. 2 volumes bound in 1 large folio, red morocco, ribbed spine richly decorated with floral motifs, wide gilt border framing the boards with gilt arms in the center, gilt roulette on the edges and inside, gilt edges (period binding). Beautiful edition of this translation by Abbé Banier, much sought-after for its engravings. It is illustrated with a frontispiece by Picart, 2 fleurons on the titles by Overbeke, engraved by Malder & Gouwen, a header vignette engraved by Bernaert, a large lettrine, 124 mid-page in-text figures by Lebrun, Leclere, Maas, Picart, Prunt, Romain, Tosca, De Wit & Wandelaar engraved by Bouche, Bouttats, Folkema, Gunst, Jungmann, Schenk & Wandelaar as well as 3 large hors-texte plates each containing 2 fine figures by Lebrun engraved by Folkema. (Cohen 768; Brunet IV, 285.) A superb contemporary morocco copy bearing the arms of Thibaud de la Brousse de Puyrigard, marquis de Verteillac, baron de La Tour Blanche, seigneur de Puyrigard et de Saint-Martin-Le-Pin (? - 1751).
