FENELON. The adventures of Telemachus, son of Ulysses. Engraved after the designs of Charles Monnet peintre de Roy by Jean Baptiste Tillard. Paris, chez l'auteur, 1773.
In-folio, red morocco, ornate ribbed spine, triple gilt fillet on covers, double gilt fillet on edges, inner gilt roulette, gilt edges.
The illustration consists of a title-frontispiece, 24 pages of contents in an engraved frame and 72 hors-texte plates executed by Monnet & Tilliard.
First edition and first print run of this rare set of 18 issues of 4 plates each (all that appeared); they were later reprinted to illustrate the 1783 edition and its reprint in 1785.
A precious copy in morocco, with a tiny epidermis on the first cover, small marginal wetness on 3 leaves without affecting the engravings, one leaf partially detached.
