CHAPELAIN (Jean). La pucelle, ou la France délivrée, poëme héroïque. Paris, Courbé, 1656. In-folio, havana morocco, richly decorated ribbed spine with fleurdelys, covers richly decorated with a semi of fleur-de-lys and a large framing frieze, gilt roulette on the edges, gilt edges (period binding). Illustrated with a frontispiece, a title vignette, 2 portraits, 16 head vignettes, 16 lettrines, 12 hors-texte figures and 9 culs de lampe. A fine edition of this unfortunately famous poem. It is decorated with plates by A. Bosse, a portrait of the Duc de Longueville by Nanteuil and a portrait of Chapelain by the same artist (the latter pasted in fine). (Brunet I, 1794.) Corners worn, a few pages browned, a few small marginal stains in places. A precious copy in richly decorated contemporary morocco.
