FONTENELLE. Les amours de Mirtil. Constantinople, sn [Joseph-Gerard Barbou], 1761.
In-12, red morocco, ornate ribbed spine, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt roulette on the edges, gilt edges (period binding).
First edition recounting the love story of Mirtil, son of Venus. It is illustrated with a title-frontispiece and 6 handsome hors-texte figures by Gravelot engraved by Legrand here, and, as very rarely, printed in red (Cohen 77).
A precious copy in contemporary morocco with the figures in red.
