VALEROT (A.) Journal de la France, containing for each day o - Lot 92
VALEROT (A.) Journal de la France, containing for each day of the month the most remarkable things that have happened from the origin of the monarchy to the present, with an abridged history of the lives of the Kings of France. Leurs généalogies et des remarques sur les différens etablissemens qui se sont faits sous leurs regnes. Paris, Delatour & Simon, 1722. In-8, red morocco, richly decorated ribbed spine, wide gilt border framing the covers with gilt arms in the center, gilt roulette on the edges and inside, gilt edges (period binding). Third edition dedicated to Louis XV of this work first published in 1715 by Abbé Guillaume Valerot, author of Histoire journalière de Paris. This is a historical calendar in which the author matches almost every day of 1722 with a major historical event. It is followed, in the form of three columns, by an abridged history of the kings of France, with their genealogies, and remarks on the various settlements made during their reigns. A precious contemporary morocco copy bearing the arms of Jean-Baptiste Paris de Meyzieu, a French bibliophile and member of the wealthy Paris brothers family. He was a lieutenant-colonel and succeeded his uncle Joseph Paris Duverney as intendant of the École royale militaire (O.H.R. 516).
