In-4 (286 x 195 mm), X pp. 1 f. n. o.c., 735 pp. 1 p. n. o.c., dark green half-chagrin with corners, smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and emblems, gilt authors, title and publisher, gilt head, cover preserved (Engel Rel.).
First edition illustrated with a frontispiece, 44 color plates and 266 black vignettes in the text.
Both authors were archivists at the Préfecture de Police in Paris. Their work was published under the auspices of Préfet de Police Louis Lépine and prefaced by René Waldeck-Rousseau, former Minister of the Interior. In addition to abundant illustrations, it offers interesting details on the history of the police and Paris.

Spine browned, small scuff marks on two corners, tear not missing on p. 19, a few scattered brown spots, otherwise a very good copy in publisher's binding with republican emblems.
