PHILIPPOTEAUX (Félix). Collection de types coloriés représen - Lot 69
PHILIPPOTEAUX (Félix). Collection de types coloriés représentant les uniformes français depuis les temps les plus reculés jusqu'à nos jours. Paris, Barbier, 1852. Large in-8 (264 x 168 mm) of 2 ff. n. ch., 175 plates, brown half-chagrin, spine ribbed boards underlined with gilt and cold fillets, gilt title, percaline boards decorated with waffle vine leaves (contemporary binding). Collection of 175 plates of military costumes drawn by Philippoteaux, wood-engraved by Deghouy and hand-colored by Mme Tassani. The work brings together, under a new title, the plates that had appeared in Adrien Pascal's Histoire de l'armée et de tous les régiments (1847-1849), i.e. a frontispiece, 153 uniforms in color and 21 battle scenes in black, the latter engraved on steel by other artists. There are 8 copies of the Capitaine de Hussards plate, in different colors and with the regiment number modified in pen. Bookplate of Hippolyte Renard, knight of the Légion d'honneur, former deputy mayor of the town of Arras. His library was sold at Drouot in 1879. Spine faded. A good copy. (Colas, no. 2287, lists only 146 plates; Glasser, pp. 351-357, lists the plates for the Dutertre edition of 1860-1864).
