CARLET DE LA ROZIERE (L. Fr.). Campagne du maréchal de Villars et de Maximilien-Emmanuel, électeur de Bavière, en Allemagne, en 1703. Paris, Merlin, 1766. In-12, green morocco, richly decorated ribbed spine, triple gilded fillet framing the covers with gilded arms in the center, gilded fillet on the edges, inner gilded roulette, gilded edges (period binding). First edition of this account of the Franco-Bavarian campaign led by Marshal de Villars during the War of the Spanish Succession. It is illustrated with a very large folding map of the Swabian and Bavarian Circles and a plan of the battle of Hochstet between the French and Bavarian armies, and that of the Imperials, on September 20, 1703. A precious contemporary morocco copy bearing the arms of Henri Reinecke (1685-1772), Count of Calenberg. He was provost of Meissen, grand master of artillery and chamberlain to the emperor in 1729. He moved to Brussels in 1754, where he amassed an important collection of books, paintings and prints, which was dispersed after his death (Armorial belge du bibliophile, p. 687).
