BONFILS (Robert) & DESCAVES (Lucien). La Manière française. Paris, Librairie "Lutetia", [1917]. In-4 (315 x 238 mm) with 1 title f., 2 ff. n.ew., 16 plates, 1 f. n.ew., leaves, publisher's illustrated portfolio, binding ribbons (publisher's folder). Very fine work on the theme of the Great War, illustrated with 20 images or culs-de-lamps by Robert Bonfils, 16 of them full-page, all hand-colored by Charpentier under the artist's direction. Edition of 320 copies, this being one of 300 on Arches laid paper, the second paper after 20 copies on Japon. Includes a preface by Lucien Descaves. A typical exponent of the Art Deco style, Robert Bonfils (1886-1972) was renowned for the elegance of his illustrations and his subtle interpretation of texts. Spotting on first cover and title, traces of wear to boards, otherwise a good copy.
