[AUBRY (Charles)]. Collection des uniformes de l'armée franç - Lot 48
[AUBRY (Charles)]. Collection des uniformes de l'armée française présenté au roi par S.E.M. le Maréchal duc de Bellune, ministre de la Guerre. Paris, Picquet, 1823. In-folio (545 x 425 mm), 30 plates, speckled half-basin with corners, gilt spine, red and black titles, brown parts with gilt crowned numeral, modern purple half-jacket with wide flaps (period binding). First edition of this superb suite of 30 lithographed and colored plates of military costumes, composed on the occasion of the Spanish Expedition. The plates were drawn by Charles Motte from compositions by Charles Aubry. "This well-drawn and carefully colored suite is extremely interesting" (Glasser). It reviews the uniforms of the royal guard (grenadiers, voltigeurs, soldiers of the center, cuirassiers, dragoons, chasseurs, lancers, hussars, artillery, elite gendarmes and Swiss infantry), line and light infantry regiments, Monsieur's carabiniers, cuirassiers, dragoons, chasseurs, hussars, artillery, pontonniers, engineering regiments and military equipment train squadrons. Fine restoration to binding, first endpaper missing, some spotting and rare handling marks, serpents to last 3 plates. A fine copy in period binding with crowned G. (Glasser, 16)
