DESNOS. In-16, red morocco, richly decorated smooth spine, wide gilded border framing the covers with gilded arms in the center, gilded fillet on the edges, inner gilded border, gilded edges (period binding). Entirely engraved. It is illustrated with a frontispiece, a title in an engraved frame, a map of the environs of Paris and a general map of France, both on double-page spreads; 156 road maps (numbered 1 to 150 and 161 to 166), 10 pages of road tables (pp. 151 to 160), 10 pages of additional tables (pp. 167 to 176) and a new table of towns and cities (47 pp.). All maps are enhanced in period colors. Staining on pp. 31-32. A precious contemporary morocco copy bearing the arms of Jean Louis de Viefville des Essarts, baron de Viefville (1744 - 1820). He held important positions in the election of Guise, was a lawyer at the Parlement de Paris and elected deputy of the Third Estate to the Estates General of 1789. His ideas were both anti-slavery and loyal to the king and the constitution. Under the Empire, he was a member of the Aisne General Council and mayor of Guise.
