LANGLOIS (Jean Charles). Voyage pittoresque et militaire en Espagne. Paris, Mulhouse & London, Engelmann & Newmann, sd [1826]. Large folio, purple half-maroquin with small corners, smooth spine decorated (period binding). Illustrated with a handsome engraved title and 40 black lithographed hors-texte plates on chine appliqué. A suite of 14 plates from another work featuring French border towns and landscapes has been bound in at the head. The plates depict landscapes with civil or military scenes, each described by a large text explaining the circumstances. A French officer and painter of military subjects and landscapes, Jean-Charles Langlois took part in the German, Egyptian, Spanish and Russian campaigns with Marshal Gouvion Saint Cyr, whose aide-de-camp he was. Minor wear defects partially restored on the binding, scattered brown spots not affecting the engravings, qqs light marginal spotting, restored tear pl. 6. otherwise a fine copy.
