Antwerp, Verdussen, 1730.

New edition, continued until 1730, illustrated with a frontispiece, 5 vignettes, a leaf showing the great arms of Portugal and 25 hors-texte portraits.
This history, which extends to the reign of King Henry, is highly esteemed for the author's veracity and impartiality, as well as for the erudition and wise reflections it contains.
It also includes a detailed account of Dom Sébastien's expeditions to Africa and, at the end of each chapter, a chronological sequence of sacred and secular histories and main events. Faria de Sousa (? - 1647) was a famous Castilian historian and poet. He wrote only in Spanish. (Chadenat 2872; Brunet II, 1183.) Restored spine, upper bit split at tail. A fine copy.
