Oblong snuffbox with oval cross-section in elephant ivory, carved with a tapestry of a village wedding scene. On the brass-hinged lid, a scene depicting the wedding feast, on the body below, the wedding itself, and on the sides, the courtship and exchange of promises. Inside the lid, an old label bearing the handwritten note: "This carved ivory snuffbox was offered to M. l'abbé Fouques, chaplain to the French army, chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur, at the siege of Sebastopol 1854-56 by a seriously wounded supreme Russian officer to whom he was giving care". The item will be delivered with its CIC attached to the appraisal report drawn up by Mr Pierre Grignon Dumoulin, legal expert and approved agent. Commercial re-export outside the EU is prohibited, with the exception of state cultural institutions upon justification.
