Mughal work (North India) - Yellow gold (at least 18 K, 750 - Lot 164
Mughal work (North India) - Yellow gold (at least 18 K, 750 thousandths) bracelet ring, fully enameled on the reverse, set with rose-cut diamonds and two spinels punctuated with cultured pearls. PB: 28.79 grs
Comment: This Indian work is based on the kundan ("pure gold" in Hindi) technique. Kundan jewelry and ornaments were the pride of Mughal rulers. The particular brilliance of this jewellery comes from the use of gold as a support for the precious stones and enamel on the reverse, reflecting the light and adding to the natural refraction of the stones. The enamel work features stylized floral forms, reminiscent of lotuses and, more generally, the luxuriant nature of Mughal gardens.
