Paris, Alliot, 1668. In-12 of [24] ff.-378 pp. (La Corruption du Grand & petit monde), [1] bl. f., [11] ff. 226 pp. Brown half calf, ornate spine, date on tail (binding c. 1900). "A singular treatise directed against cabalistic practices and the charlatans who make use of them" Caillet. In the second part, devoted to the Powder of Sympathy, the author wonders "if two distant people could communicate with each other by some marvelous and secret way, without magic art and by purely natural ways. [...] There are not even the smallest animals that do not rerspect the marvellous effects of sympathy; there are dogs that cognize the disasters that befall their absent masters, from which it follows that distant bodies can make an impression on each other by sympathy, but it is ridiculous and extravagant to assure that the universal spirit of the world carries the virtue of the Powder of Sympathy a thousand leagues away to heal an injured person". (Caillet, 8715 about the original 1667 edition; Guaita, 842 "Très rare"; Dorbon, 3677.) Very small worm gallery in lower margin of a few pages. Bookplate Car. de Beaurepaire. Bookplate J.M.
