Rare first edition of this work devoted to the affair of the Possessed of Louviers, a series of cases of possessions at the Saint-Louis-Sainte-Élisabeth convent of the Ursulines of Louviers, from 1643 until the end of the trial in 1647, to be compared with the earlier cases of the possessions of Aix-en-Provence and the demons of Loudun.
"One of the most curious erotic-mystical works of the 17th century. Michelet, in La Sorcière, points out to his readers 'the amorous liberties that the angel Gabriel takes with the Virgin, his dove-like kisses, etc.' mentioned in this treatise, which is nonetheless extremely valuable for the history of witchcraft in France, and particularly for everything relating to the case of Madeleine Bavant and the Possessed of Louviers (1643-46). In addition, the author deals with magic, visions, apparitions, spells, etc...". Caillet (3292).
