In it, Milton asserted his republican principles and legitimized the execution of King Charles I. Published here on the eve of Louis XVI's execution, the preface draws a parallel between the two regicides. "La déclaration des deux maisons du Parlement (...)" (pp. [151]-196) and "La déclaration des Communes d'Angleterre" (pp. [197]-221) both have a distinctive title page.
