Autograph letter signed on engraved headed paper (République Française with allegorical illustration) from Admiral VILLARET JOYEUSE, Captain General of Martinique and Dependencies, 1 p. folio addressed to Citoyen Demansin sous commissaire de la Marine au gouvernement de Fort de France, Saint Pierre, 23 germinal an XI (13 avril 1803).
"I am very sorry, my dear Demansin, for the accident which deprives you of the pleasure of attending the fête which, according to the preparations, I think will be a charming one. Send me as soon as possible my register of correspondence with the Minister, it is necessary for me to answer some of his requests. Love, Villaret. Stained to find in my boxes the petition of the inhabitants of Fort de France for the opening of their port to foreigners and the [?] papers".
