Par un bon François nepveu de Rotomagus. Rouen, David Geuffroy & Jacques Besongne, 1617.
Small 32 pp. in-8, early 19th c. red bradel boards, gilt title on spine. Light angular spotting.
Very rare first edition of this play about the famous couple formed by Concino Concini (1575-1617), a minor Italian nobleman and favorite of the regent Marie de Médicis (1575-1642), and his wife Leonora Dora "Galigaï", Catherine de Médicis' milk sister. Highly influential with the widow of Henri IV and mother of Louis XIII, the couple were detested by the people and nobles of France. While Concini was murdered by Baron de Vitry, captain of the bodyguard, on Louis XIII's orders, on April 2, 1617, in the courtyard of the Louvre, his wife was condemned and executed for witchcraft on July 8, 1617.
