Small in-8, 255 pp. green half-maroquin, smooth spine decorated, gilt title (18th c. rel.) Restored angular loss to title. Mottling. Ink stains on 2 pp. Several small old handwritten notes.
The woodcut illustration features a portrait of the author on the title, and 85 figures in the text (hands, zodiac allegories, physiognomies, diagrams...).
According to Caillet and others, Jean d'INDAGINE is the pseudonym of Doctor Jæger of Nüremberg.
Reprint of the rare original French edition of 1540, illustrated with woodcuts attributed to Petit Bernard, whose real name was Bernard Salomon (Caillet 5387).
