On a adjoinct la deuxiesme partie de: les Tyrannies commises aux Indes Occidentales par les Espagnols. Nouvellement exorné avec taille douçe en cuyvre. Amsterdam, J. Evertss Cloppenburg, 1620. 2 parts in 1 vol. small in-4 of [4]-88 (mal ch. 87)-68 ff. Part 2 has its own title frontispiece and pagination. Red jansenist morocco, spine ribbed, gilt title, inner lace, gilt edges (late 19th c. binding). Beginning of a split at one joint, some very slight rubbing to the nerves. Some light spotting. Hole reaching the text (due to an original paper defect) on f. 35. Illustrated with 2 fine engraved titles in historiated frames and 37 mid-page engraved figures (scenes of massacres, pyres, tortures or torments) after Théodore de Bry. A fine copy of this impressive and confounding Protestant document documenting the violence perpetrated by the Spanish in the Low Countries and America in the 15th century, with a second part featuring the text by the famous bishop of Chiapas, Mexico, Bartolomé de Las Casas (1464-1566) under a separate title: "Le Miroir de la Tyrannie Espagnole perpetree aux Indes Occidentales. On verra icy la cruaute plus que inhumaine, commise par les Espagnols, aussi la Description de ces terres, peuples, et leur nature. Put in light by Evesque Bartholome de las Casas, de l'Ordre de S. Dominic. Newly redone with cuyvre figures".
