In-12, 20 pp. Red half-maroquin, smooth spine decorated, gilt title, date on tail, covers preserved (Lemardeley).
The bloodiest satire ever published against the Conseil supérieur. It was directed mainly against Abbé Perchel, promoter of the chapître, councillor-clerk of the Parlement de Normandie, who had made himself unpopular by sitting on the Conseil Supérieur, or Parlement Maupeou. Abbé Perchel died in Rouen at the age of 76, locked up in the Palais de Justice prison, on June 26, 1794. The Conseil Supérieur, created in Rouen by edict in Dec. 1771, was abolished, and the Cour des Comptes, Aides et Finances de Normandie, re-established on Nov. 12, 1774, by edict in October of the same year.
The reprint by the Société rouennaise des bibliophiles is based on a copy of this edition.
