[Manuscrit]. Catalog et nobiliaire du Parlement de Normandie - Lot 528
[Manuscrit]. Catalog et nobiliaire du Parlement de Normandie. sl[late 18th c.]. Small folio of 185 pp, [37] bl. ff, [10] ff. table, [5] bl. ff. Contemporary marbled paper boards. Small worm gallery in the upper corner of the first few pages. Ex-libris J.M. "Manuscript in very legible handwriting, approximately 50 lines per page. It lists the Premiers Présidents, Présidents à Mortier, Conseillers, Avocats généraux, Procureurs généraux and Greffiers en chef of the Parlement de Rouen since its inception (October 1, 1499). These lists are arranged chronologically; the most recent date (indicating the approximate time when the manuscript was written) is May 24, 1778. This apparently anonymous manuscript was used by President de Frondeville for his monumental 4-volume publication on the people of the Parliament of Normandy. It also enabled him to bypass the 348th entry in the Bigot manuscript - an essential source for his work - and to go as far as entry 378, becoming his only continuous source until the death of Louis XIV, the deadline he had set himself. In the acknowledgements at the head of Volume IV, he describes it as "very exact". The guarantee provided by his authority on the subject makes it a highly valuable work for the history of this venerable institution." Notice from the former owner of the manuscript. With a visiting card addressed to M. de Frondeville.
