BERTAUT (Jean). Recueil des œuvres poétiques de J. Bertaut [ - Lot 369
BERTAUT (Jean). Recueil des œuvres poétiques de J. Bertaut [...] Seconde édition augmentée de plus de la moitié outre la précédente impression. Paris, Lucas Breyel, 1605. Bound consecutively (with new title and pagination): - Recueil de quelques vers amoureux. Paris, Patisson, 1606. Because of the ecclesiastical dignity of Bertaut, Abbé d'Aunay and first chaplain to the Queen, this work appeared anonymously, presented with "a preface by the author's brother". - Paranète, ou fantaisie sur les cérémonies de Monseigneur le Dauphin. Paris, L'Angelier, 1607. First edition of this extremely rare booklet. Neither Brunet nor Deschamps mention it. Rothschild misses it. In-12 brown basane, spine ribbed and decorated (period binding). Covers worn. "BERTAUT (Jean), poet, born in Caen in 1552, obtained the bishopric of Sées in 1607, and died in the latter city on June 8, 1611. He was successively secretary and reader to King Henri III, adviser to the Grenoble Parliament, abbot of Aunay, bishop of Sées and first chaplain to Queen Marie de Médicis. Bertaut's Œuvres poétiques were first printed in Paris in 1601." Frère. Ex-libris J.M. (Frère I, 98.)
