CASY (J. G.). Organisation du personnel d'un vaisseau. Paris, Carillan-Goeury, 1840. In-8, purplish chagrin, richly decorated smooth spine, quintuple fillet including a wide cold fillet and four gilt fillets framing the boards, gilt and cold motifs in the center including a gilt and crowned figure on the first board, gilt fillet on the edges, triple gilt inner fillet, gilt edges (period binding signed Charles Blaise). First edition illustrated with 5 hors-texte plates in black, 3 hors-texte plates in color, 3 tables; all folding, as well as 5 ff. of music. Joseph Grégoire Casy (1787 - 1862) was a French naval officer and politician. He became vice-admiral and member of the board of directors of the Admiralty, before embarking on a political career. He was elected deputy to the Constituent Assembly in 1848, briefly served as Minister of the Navy, and became a senator under the Second French Empire in 1852. A precious copy bearing the cipher of François d'Orléans, Prince de Joinville (1818 - 1900), Knight of the Golden Fleece. He was a naval captain and vice-admiral. Some scattered brown spots.
