2 parts bound in 1 volume in-8, marbled calf, ornate smooth spine, triple gilt fillet framing the boards, gilt fillet on the edges (some wear).
Fine edition illustrated with an engraved frontispiece by Augustin de Saint-Aubin, four head vignettes and a title vignette by Choffard, and four hors-texte figures after Le Prince and Gravelot. Following the text of Les Saisons are "Pièces fugitives", "Contes" and "Fables Orientales". One of these Contes, entitled "Ziméo, par George Filmer, né primitif" (Zemeo, by George Filmer, born primitive), depicts the Negro-maroons of Jamaica, suggesting the evolution of ideas on slavery; the style is romantic, and the tone moralistic.
