ROUSSEAU (Jean-Jacques). Discours sur l'origine et les fonde - Lot 203
ROUSSEAU (Jean-Jacques). Discours sur l'origine et les fondemens de l'inégalité parmi les hommes. Amsterdam, Rey, 1755. In-8, marbled calf, ornate smooth spine, gilt fillet on edges. First edition with Rousseau's first name ("Jaques") misspelled in the title and dedication and, on page 11, the word "conformé" retouched in pen by M. M. Rey, who added an acute accent to the last letter. It is illustrated with a frontispiece engraved by Dominique Sornique after Charles Dominique Joseph Eisen, an allegorical title vignette depicting Liberty engraved by S. Fokke and a header vignette with the arms of the Republic of Geneva after Soubeyran. In Discours sur l'origine de l'inégalité, Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778) presents for the first time his complete vision of man and the world. This book, which recounts the emergence of humanity, makes a decisive contribution to the spirit of the Enlightenment. A fine copy.
