Amsterdam, Wetstein & Smith, 1732. 2 volumes bound in 1 large folio, havana morocco, richly decorated ribbed spine, triple gilt fillet on covers, double gilt fillet on edges, interior roulette, gilt edges (period binding). A fine edition of this translation by Abbé Banier, much sought-after for its engravings. It is illustrated with a frontispiece by Picart, 2 fleurons on the titles by Overbeke, engraved by Malder & Gouwen, a header vignette engraved by Bernaert, a large lettrine, 124 mid-page in-text figures by Lebrun, Leclere, Maas, Picart, Prunt, Romain, Tosca, De Wit & Wandelaar engraved by Bouche, Bouttats, Folkema, Gunst, Jungmann, Schenk & Wandelaar as well as 3 large hors-texte plates each containing 2 fine figures by Lebrun engraved by Folkema. (Cohen 768; Brunet IV, 285.) A precious copy in contemporary morocco, some leaves slightly yellowed.
