4 vol. in-folio, marbled calf, richly decorated ribbed spines, triple gilt fillet framing the covers with floral motif in spandrels (very worn period binding).
The illustrations include 4 vignettes on the titles and 273 (out of 275) plates by Oudry engraved by Cochin, Tardieu, Prévost, Chedel, Lempereur etc., as well as numerous beautiful woodcuts by Le Sueur and Papillon after Bachellier.
Cochin's brilliant adaptation of Oudry's drawings makes this one of the most remarkable illustrated books of the 18th century (Cohen 548; Tchemerzine III, 874-875).
