In-12, blond calf, finely decorated ribbed spine, triple gilt fillet on covers, int. lace, gilt tr.
Spine slightly rubbed.
First edition of these 12 satyres, in which the author demonstrates in the 4th that "madness sovereignly governs the mind of man, that without it he would have nothing to occupy himself with... He shows that everything is madness". The author was a friend of Pierre Corneille, whose plays he edited. The work concludes with satyrics against the lies and extravagances of the poets. A fine copy.

Attached is a copy of Lallemant's Rouen edition, 1686, with an errata leaf in fine. Small in-12 red morocco, finely decorated ribbed spine, triple gilt fillet framing the covers, gilt edges, int. lace (A. Bertrand). Ex-libris J.M.
