Brown calf, smooth spine decorated with a gilt fillet border, double gilt fillet border framing the boards with gilt flowers in the spandrels and large Passion iron in the center (period binding). Restorations. Small angular loss to one leaf. Nicknamed "the French Tibulle", Philippe Desportes (1546-1606), abbé de Thiron, lecteur de la chambre du Roi and conseiller d'État, was Henry III's poet laureate.
