Crowned Saint Beard, a carved and polychromed wooden subject represented standing, carrying in her left hand the tower in which her father had her locked up, because she refused to recant her faith. He had her beheaded and then struck by lightning. 16th-17th century. Height: 73 cm (Retake to polychromy, accidents and lack of use misses fingers) Saint Barbara is the patron saint of firefighters: firemen, artillerymen, miners. The legendary life of the saint was popularized at the end of the 13th century by Jacques de Voragine, Archbishop of Genoa, in the Golden Legend (Catalogue of Saints).
