Petit Journal pour rire (Magazine). Editor, NADAR. Paris, 20 rue Bergère, at the offices of Journal Amusant, Musée Français-Anglais and Modes Parisiennes, sd (1856). 4 volumes in-4 half red chagrin, smooth threaded spines, gilt title and tomaison (contemporary binding). Serial head containing numbers 1 to 208 (8 pp. each, front cover in color), the first four years of this review. Covers and number of illustrations in black by Nadar, Grévin, Doré, Bertall, etc. (8 pp. each, front cover in colour). With an illustrated general title, repeated in each volume. Scrubbed, qs few issues scorched, if not very good set well preserved. Le Petit Journal pour rire is a weekly magazine published on Saturdays, launched on February 23rd 1856: it includes most of the drawings of the Journal amusant and is directed by Nadar, who was appointed editor-in-chief, Eugène Philipon and then Théodore Le Cerf. A second series began in 1869. A third series began at the beginning of 1881 and included 600 issues. A fourth and last series finally ends in 1904.
