UNIQUE EXAMPLE filled with 16 ORIGINAL AQUARELLES by Eugène LAMI (1800-1890), 4 of which are signed "E Lamy" at the bottom right. Student of Horace Vernet and then of Baron Gros at the School of Fine Arts, Eugène Louis Lami (who sometimes signed Lamy, as is the case here) (Paris 1800 - 1890) was first a lithographer. He was also an excellent battle painter, possessing the acuity of Raffet with less force of expression but more elegance; his paintings preserved in Versailles are among the best in the historical museum. But it was above all as a watercolorist that our artist gave the mark of the fullness of his talent. After military subjects, he turned more to genre scenes, depicting the elegant life of the court and the bourgeoisie, using mainly the technique of watercolour for this purpose. At the age of 79, he was one of the founders of the French watercolourists' society and took part in its exhibitions until the end of his long career. He continued to paint until his death at the age of 90. In addition to his collections of engravings, he illustrated several works, including the Works of Alfred de Musset, Eugène Guinot's L'Été à Bade, L'Été à Paris and Un hiver à Paris by Jules Janin.
