HOUVILLE (Gérard d'). Too bad for you. Paris, Arthème Fayard - Lot 454
HOUVILLE (Gérard d'). Too bad for you. Paris, Arthème Fayard & Cie, sd [1921]. In-12 red half-sadness, spine with nerves, golden title, golden head (rubbed caps and bits). Good copy enriched with an E.A.S. from the author to Mr and Mrs Paul DESCHANEL and an autograph postcard signed "Marie de Régnier" addressed to Marc Chesneau (about the Société des Poètes). Gérard d'Houville is none other than the pseudonym of Marie-Louise-Antoinette de Régnier, daughter of the poet José-Maria de Heredia and wife of the poet Henri de Régnier. A woman of letters who had been immersed in the literary world since her childhood, and a free woman with morals free from convention, she was also one of the mistresses of Pierre Louys (among others), who also had a troubled or unequivocal relationship with the mother and two sisters of Mary. He eventually married the youngest of the three daughters, Louise, and was inspired by these relationships in his erotic novel Trois filles de leur mère. Marie de Hérédia received, under her pen name, in 1918 the first prize in literature from the Académie française for the body of her work, becoming the first woman to receive this prestigious award.
