ARCLAIS de MONTAMY (Didier François d'). Treatise on colours - Lot 352
ARCLAIS de MONTAMY (Didier François d'). Treatise on colours for enamel painting and on porcelain, preceded by L'Art de peindre sur émail. Paris, Cavelier, 1765. In-12 of LII- 287 (1) pp. Marbled calf, spine ribbed and decorated with gilt fleurons, title p. in red marble. Posthumous work, published by Diderot. The author, placed under the Duke of Orleans, of whom he was appointed first Maître d'Hôtel, practiced mathematics, experimental physics and chemistry. The Art of Painting, which precedes, was done under the eyes of M. Durand, painter of the Duke of Orleans, and "professor" of M. de Montamy. Didier-François d'Arclais de Montamy was a friend of Diderot since at least 1755. In 1765, it was Diderot who published his Treatise of Colours for enamel and porcelain painting. A good copy in spite of the lack of headdresses.
