MOLIÈRE (Jean Baptiste Poquelin says). Complete works of Molière reviewed on the original texts by Adolphe Regnier. Paris, Imprimerie Nationale, 1878. 5 vol. large in-4, red morocco, richly ornamented ribbed spine, quintuple gilt fillet framing the dishes with spandrel motifs, double gilt fillet on the cups, large gilt inner border, gilt tr., preserved cover (Carayon). This edition, printed in 600 copies on laid paper, was made for the Universal Exhibition of 1878. (Vicar V, 934.) Copy enriched with : 1. the continuation of the portrait and the 31 drawings of Louis Leloir engraved by Flameng before the letter in large in-8 format, reimposed in large in-4 format and printed in only 20 numbered copies, 2. the suite of the portrait and the 31 drawings of Louis Leloir engraved by Flameng before any letter, signed at the point, in grand in-4 jesus format (These 2 suites were sold separately or were used to illustrate Molière's theatre published in 8 volumes by Jouaust between 1876 & 1883). (Vicar V, 933-934.) 3. the suite of 36 plates (including the engraved title) published by the Morgand bookstore, proofs before the letter and with the frame, state "K" on Japanese paper; could be used as illustration for the 1878 edition. (Vicar V, 936.) Very nice copy, very small freckles in places.
