BERTRAND (Arthur). Letters on the St. Helena expedition in 1 - Lot 289
BERTRAND (Arthur). Letters on the St. Helena expedition in 1840. Paris, Paulin, 1841. In-8 paperback, printed cover. The author is none other than the own son of General Count Bertrand and Elisabeth-Françoise Dillon, known as Frances or Fanny, daughter of General Arthur Dillon and Laure Girardin de Montgérald, Creole of Martinique. He was born in Sainte-Hélène in 1817; his mother will have the spirit to announce the birth to Napoleon in this way: "Sire, I have the honour to present to you the first Frenchman who entered Longwood without the permission of the governor". The young Arthur was also part of the expedition to return the Emperor's ashes in 1840 aboard the corvette La Favorite, alongside his father and the Prince de Joinville, among others, who had embarked on the frigate La Belle Poule. Dirty, freckled leggings.
