LUTHER (Martin). Memoirs of Luther written by himself, trans - Lot 265
LUTHER (Martin). Memoirs of Luther written by himself, translated and put in order by M. MICHELET [.] followed by an Essay on the History of Religion and biographies of Wicleff, Jean Huss, Erasmus, Melanchton, Hutten and other predecessors and contemporaries of Luther. Paris, Hachette, 1837. 2 vol. in-8 dark blue half calf with corners, spine with decorated nerves (contemporary binding). This work, despite its text, is not strictly speaking the work of Luther himself; it is more of a long biography of the reformer, composed of fragments of his letters and his Table Talk or colloquial speeches. Michelet has endeavored to render Luther's personality without bias. Qqs scrubbed if not beautiful copy.
