GIRARDIN (Louis Stanislas de). Memoirs. New edition, decorat - Lot 247
GIRARDIN (Louis Stanislas de). Memoirs. New edition, decorated with a facsimile of the widow of J.-J. Rousseau. Paris, Aubrée, 1834. 2 vol. in-8 red long-grained half-maroquin, smooth spine, gilt title and tomaison, date on tail, cover preserved (late 19th c. de Carayon posterior binding). Very nice copy. Son of the marquis René-Louis de Girardin lord of Ermenonville, godson of Stanislas Leszczynski and pupil of Jean-Jacques Rousseau (who had been welcomed by his family, with his companion Marie-Thérèse Le Vasseur), Stanislas de Girardin (1762-1827) first joined the army during the Revolution (of which he was a staunch supporter) and then during the Empire, notably alongside Joseph Bonaparte, before embarking on a brilliant political career as a prefect and then as a member of the Liberal opposition.
